About Us

The Humane Society Dawson (HSD) is an animal shelter located in Canada’s North.

Founded in 1995, the HSD is a registered charitable organization that relies heavily on donations, fundraising, memberships, animal boarding/surrender/adoption fees, and government grants to help keep the shelter running.

The HSD is dedicated to providing shelter and care for abandoned and surrendered animals. We also educate and raise awareness throughout our community for responsible pet ownership, and steadily work to prevent cruelty to animals.

The HSD is a small shelter with a big heart!

Recently, we have seen a surge in the number of animals at our shelter. Last year we had 90 admissions of surrendered animals and temporary boarders. With continuous dedication, and our awesome team of volunteers, we are able to give a safe, caring and comfortable stay for all animals that turn up here, and find fosters and permanent homes for the homeless every year.

Our Mandate:

  • To provide shelter to unwanted animals.
  • To foster a compassionate atmosphere for animals.
  • To promote humane and responsible pet ownership.

We are always in Need of:

  • Leashes
  • Office supplies, such as: paper, staples, pens, tape, etc.
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Dog and cat food
  • And of course, money donations or cheques are always welcome!

Donations are a great way to assist the shelter in funding for building maintenance and repairs. We have many donation jars located at various stores and hotels around town and every penny counts!

The HSD welcomes any volunteer help that we can get, whether it’s for the feed & care of animals, dog walking or assisting us with fundraising events. All help that we can get from the public to assist the HSD in raising awareness is greatly appreciated.
